U.S. Stocks Rise on Greece Optimism; Oil Erases Advance- amid speculation Greece will stay in the euro after polls showed voters supporting politicians who back the nation’s bailout. Commodities erased earlier gains while Treasuries were little changed. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 1.01 percent, to 12,580.69. The S&P 500 Index added 1.11 percent, to 1,332.42.

European Stocks Advance as U.S. House Prices Stabilize: European stocks advanced for the third time in four days as data showing the U.S. housing market is stabilizing outweighed a report that China has no intention of introducing large-scale stimulus. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 increased 0.7 percent, Germany’s DAX gained 1.2 percent and France’s CAC 40 advanced 1.4 percent.

Oil Trades Near Weekly Low as U.S. Supplies Seen Rising: Oil traded near the lowest settlement in almost a week in New York before a government report that may show crude stockpiles climbed to the highest level since 1990 in the U.S., the world’s biggest consumer of the commodity. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, July crude fell 10 cents, or 0.11 percent, to settle at $90.76 a barrel, having traded from $90.25 to $92.21.

European Stocks Are Little Changed; Banks Drop, Rio Rises: following last week’s rally for the region’s equity
benchmark, as a selloff in banks offset Greek opinion polls that eased concern the country will leave the euro. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 gained 0.1 percent, Germany’s DAX dropped 0.3 percent and France’s CAC 40 decreased 0.2 percent.

U.S. financial markets closed on Monday for the Memorial Day holiday.

Oil Climbs a Third Day on U.S. Economic Growth Outlook: Signaling fuel demand may increase in the
world’s biggest crude-consuming nation. Crude for July delivery advanced as much as $1.13 to $91.99 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Floor trading was closed yesterday for the
U.S. Memorial Day holiday and transactions will be booked with today’s trades for settlement purposes.


CORPORATE NEWS


FGVH to list on June 28: Source. The world's thirdlargest oil palm plantation operator, will be launching its prospectus on Thursday, with listing targeted for June 28. The retail price is touted to be RM4.65, subject to the final institutional price which will be determined by a bookbuilding exercise (which ends on June 15).

Rashdan resigns from MAS: During his short stint in MAS, Rashdan was in charge of short-haul operations, commercial, finance, corporate finance and strategic procurement units. This includes the purchase of aircraft. Rashdan's latest stint in MAS was his second involvement in restructuring the national air carrier over the last 10 years.

RHBCap posts lower Q1 net profit of RM435m: net profit fell 5% in the first quarter ended March 31, 2012 (Q1, mainly due to the effects of higher restated profits due to application of Malaysia Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) 139 and lower profit contributions from its corporate and investment banking, retail banking, business banking and global financial banking operations.

PetChem posts higher profit: net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2012, grew 3.4% to RM1.02bil, the group recorded improved operational performance this quarter.

E&O Q4 net profit triples: its net profit for the fourth quarter of its financial year ended March 31 more than triple to RM42.37mil. Attributable to strong sales and higher revenue recognition as well as cost control initiatives. The company has proposed a final dividend of 4.25 sen per share.

Boustead earnings rise 22% on higher revenue: net profit rose to RM144.6mil for the first quarter ended March 31. U.S. Stocks Rise to End S&P 500’s 3-Week Losing Streak: U.S. stocks rose, giving the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index its first weekly rally since April, as investors were lured by the cheapest valuations since November. The S&P 500 climbed 1.7 percent to 1,317.82, extending its 2012 gain to 4.8 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 85.45 points, or 0.7 percent, to 12,454.83, rebounding from the lowest level since January.

Europe Stocks Post First Weekly Gain in a Month on Values: as China pledged to bolster growth and a three week selloff left the Stoxx Europe 600 Index at its cheapest level since January. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 rose 1.6 percent, France’s CAC 40 gained 1.3 percent and Germany’s DAX rose 1.1 percent.

Asian Stocks Fall for Fourth Week on China, Europe Debt Concerns: on signs China’s economic slowdown is deepening and on concern Europe’s debt crisis will worsen. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 0.4 percent , after the Bank of Japan refrained from adding more monetary stimulus. Hong Kong’s benchmark Hang Seng Index slipped 1.3 percent.

Oil Rises on U.S. Consumer Confidence, Iran Inspections: on reports showing that U.S. consumer
confidence gained and the United Nations’ atomic agency found evidence Iran boosted its output of
enriched uranium that could be used for a nuclear weapon. Crude oil for July delivery rose 20 cents to
settle at $90.86 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

U.S. Stocks Erase Loss as Europe Offsets China Concern: as Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti said
Greece is likely to stay in the euro and a majority of the region’s leaders support issuing a joint bond, offsetting
earlier concern about a Chinese slowdown.

In the U.S., data showed companies placed fewer orders for computers, machinery and other capital equipment in April for a second month. Manufacturing in the U.S. expanded in May at the slowest pace in three months, indicating the industry that’s spurred the expansion is cooling. The S&P 500 rose 0.1 percent to 1,320.68, reversing a loss of 0.6 percent. The index gained for a fourth day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 33.60 points, or 0.3 percent, to 12,529.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 0.4 percent to 2,839.38.

European Stocks Rebound From Biggest Decline in a Month: amid concern recent losses are overdone considering the outlook for company earnings. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 rallied 1.6 percent, Germany’s DAX advanced 0.5 percent and France’s CAC 40 gained 1.2 percent.

Oil Retains Gains on Iran Talks: Oil rebounded from a seven-month low as world powers and Iran struggled to overcome disagreements at their second round of meetings on the country’s nuclear program. Crude for July delivery gained 76 cents to settle at $90.66 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It’s the fourth time prices have risen this month.

Maybank, CIMB post double-digit growth in Q1:Maybank posted an 18% rise in net profit to RM1.35
billion from RM1.14 billion a year ago, on healthy growth in net interest income and non-interest income while CIMB saw a 10% growth to RM1.01 billion from RM916.5 million previously, driven by outperformance at its regional corporate banking and treasury markets division and
sustained high growth momentum at its Indonesian unit, PT Bank CIMB Niaga TBK.

AEON to expand to Sabah, Sarawak in 3-5 years: The
group is also expected to open a two-level community
shopping centre in Sri Manjung, Perak by year-end, which
would be its 21st shopping centre and 26th general
merchandise store (GMS).

KLK’s Q2 net profit falls 43%: to RM214.9 million from
RM373.9 million a year ago, mainly due to lower
contributions from its plantation, oleochemical and retail
divisions. KLK declared an interim dividend of 15 sen per
share, payable on Aug 8.

Handal wins contract from Petrofac: a two-year contract from Petrofac Energy Developments Sdn Bhd to provide maintenance services for the latter's "Seacrane" offshore pedestal crane. The rates to be charged for the services will only be decided at the time the service is provided

U.S. Stocks Erase Loss Amid Optimism on Europe Efforts: sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average toward the lowest level on a closing basis this year, amid concern Greece may leave the euro and as Dell Inc. (DELL) tumbled on disappointing revenue forecast. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index fell 1.3 percent to 1,299.19. It traded near its average price of the last 200 days of about 1,280. The Dow decreased 169.15 points, or 1.4 percent, to 12,333.66. The gauge trimmed this year’s gain to 1 percent. Trading in S&P 500 companies was 1.8 percent above the 30-day average at this time of day.

Stocks Decline in Europe Amid Greek Concern; slid the most in a month amid growing concern that Greece may leave the euro as the region’s leaders prepared to meet in Brussels. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 lost 2.5 percent and Germany’s DAX slid 2.3 percent. France’s CAC 40 sank 2.6 percent.

No more impairment on Idea for now, says Axiata: Axiata, via a merger between Idea Cellular and Spice Telecoms in 2008, acquired 19 per cent stake in Idea Cellular for about 143 rupees (RM8.03) a share in 2008. Unfortunately, Idea's share price has been on a declining trend since the merger.

U.S. Stocks Reverse Gain in Final Hour on Greece Woes: as concern that Greece would exit the euro and a tumble in Facebook (FB) Inc. shares overshadowed economic optimism. The S&P 500 added 0.1 percent to 1,316.63, almost erasing a gain of 1 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.67 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 12,502.81.

European Stocks Rise the Most in a Month; amid speculation that China and the euro area will do more to stimulate global economic growth. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 and France’s CAC 40 advanced 1.9 percent. Germany’s DAX increased 1.7 percent.

Asia Stocks Rise as Germany, China Vow to Spur Growth: on speculation China and Europe will do more to bolster economic growth, boosting the outlook for the region’s exporters. Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 1.1 percent as the Bank of Japan started a two-day policy meeting today. South Korea’s Kospi Index advanced 1.6 percent. Singapore’s Straits Times Index rose 1.3 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index (HSI) rose 0.6 percent. The Shanghai Composite Index, which tracks the larger of China’s stock exchanges, rose 1.1 percent.

Oil Drops on Iran’s Agreement to Allow Nuclear Inspectors: easing concern that the conflict over the
country’s atomic energy program would disrupt Mideast supplies. Oil for June delivery slid 91 cents to settle at $91.66 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

S&P 500 Has Biggest Gain in Two Months on China Signals: after China signaled it would support growth while German and French officials said they will work to keep Greece in the euro. The S&P 500 added 1.6 percent to 1,315.99, halting a six-day drop. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 135.10 points, or
1.1 percent, to 12,504.48. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained
2.5 percent, the most this year, to 2,847.21.

European Stocks Rebound From Selloff as Carmakers Climb: rebounding from last week’s biggest selloff since September, as China’s pledge to boost growth outweighed concern that Greece may be forced to leave the euro area. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 gained 0.7 percent and Germany’s DAX increased 1 percent, while France’s CAC 40 rose 0.6 percent.

Asia Stocks Rise After China Premier Says Growth Is Focus: with the regional index rebounding from its biggest drop in six months, after Premier Wen Jiabao said China will focus more on bolstering economic growth. Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average climbed 0.3 percent today before the Bank of Japan begins a two-day meeting tomorrow. South Korea’s Kospi Index rose 0.9 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 0.2 percent. China’s Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.2 percent.

Oil Rises for First Time in Seven Days on China Pledge: China pledged to boost the nation’s economy and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said the balance between the supply and demand of crude is tightening. Crude oil for June delivery rose $1.09 to settle at $92.57 a barrel on the New York Mercantile
Exchange. It was the biggest gain since May 1. Prices tumbled 1.2 percent on May 18 to $91.48, the lowest close since Oct. 26. Oil is down 6.3 percent this year.

Mah Sing plans new Bangi township: has acquired two plots of land in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor for a combined RM333.26 million or RM18.55 per sq ft, where it plans to develop a township with a gross development value (GDV) of RM2.15 billion.

Brahim’s to buy out German partner in catering unit: plans to buy the 49% stake it does not own in Brahim's-LSG Sky ChefsHoldings Sdn Bhd (BLSG) for RM130 million cash, as part of a strategy to turn Brahim's into a sizeable integrated food and beverage player.

Boustead to privatise UAC at RM4.30 a share: plans to privatise its 65%-owned unit UAC Bhd via a selective capital reduction and repayment (SCR) exercise, which together with a proposed dividend payment, would see UAC's minority shareholders bought out at RM4.30 per share or RM111.3
million.

Salcon buys Darco Water unit for RM47m: which is targeting a listing of its China assets in two years, is acquiring a 60% stake in Singapore Exchange-listed Darco Water Technologies Ltd's unit Darco Environmental Pte Ltd for 95.8 million renminbi (RM47.5 million).

S&P 500 Falls for 3rd Week in Longest Slump Since August:The S&P 500 tumbled 4.3 percent to 1,295.22, the biggest retreat since November. The index sank 7.7 percent over three weeks, trimming its 2012 gain to 3 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 451.22 points, or 3.5 percent, to 12,369.38, the lowest level since Jan. 6. The Nasdaq Composite Index (CCMP) plunged 5.3 percent, the most since September, to 2,778.79, extending its loss from a March high to 11 percent.

European Stocks Post Biggest Weekly Drop in Eight Months: as Greece moved closer to a possible exit from the euro and concern mounted those Spanish banks will need rescue. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 declined 5.5 percent. France’s CAC 40 lost 3.9 percent and Germany’s DAX slid 4.7 percent.

Asian Stocks Tumble, Wipe Out Year’s Gains, on Europe, U.S. Data: as Europe’s debt crisis worsened, U.S. economic data missed estimates and Chinese home prices and investment declined. Crude Oil Falls for a Seventh Day in Longest Decline Since 2009: after Saudi Arabian crude output rose to close to a 31- year high and money managers reduced bullish bets on the commodity. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, crude for June delivery, which expires on Tuesday, settled at $91.48 a barrel, falling $1.08, or 1.17 percent.

Stocks Drop on Europe, Manufacturing Data as Gold Rallies:
Stocks sank, dragging the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index to a four-month low, as concern grew about the health of Spanish banks and an U.S. gauge of manufacturing trailed projections. Gold rebounded from its lowest level of the year while 10-year Treasury yields approached a record low. The S&P 500 tumbled 1.5 percent to close at 1,304.86 at and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 156 points.

European Stocks Drop as ECB Pauses Greek Bank Lending:
declined for a fourth day as the region’s central bank paused lending to some Greek banks and speculation mounted that Spanish banks may have their credit ratings cut at Moody’s Investors Service. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 (UKX), Germany’s DAX and France’s CAC 40 all dropped 1.2 percent.

Oil Fluctuates on Pipeline Reversal, Spanish Banks: Oil fell to a six-month low as investors speculated Spanish banks may have their credit ratings lowered and an American gauge of manufacturing trailed projections, bolstering concern that economic growth will slow. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, June crude fell 25 cents, or 0.27 percent, to settle at $92.65 a barrel, the lowest settlement since Nov. 2 when crude
closed at $92.51.

Formis acquires 20% stake in Microlink: for RM4.587 million cash. Formis said the acquisition was a direct business transaction. S&P 500 Caps Longest Slump in 1 Month on Europe Concerns: dropped a fourth day, the longest decline in a month, as concern Greece’s debt crisis is worsening offset better-than-estimated reports on U.S. housing starts and industrial production. The S&P 500 retreated 0.4 percent to 1,324.80 reversing an earlier advance of as much as 0.8 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 33.45 points, or 0.3 percent, to 12,598.55, the lowest level since Jan. 18.

European Stocks Extend Four-Month Low Amid Greek Concern: dropped for a third day, to their lowest level this year, amid growing concern Greece will be forced to leave the euro area. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 fell 0.6 percent, Germany’s DAX dropped 0.3 percent and France’s CAC 40 increased 0.3 percent.

Oil, Gold Slide as Dollar Gains on Greece: Oil slid to a six-month low and gold declined as the Dollar Index extended a record-long rally amid concern Greece’s financial crisis is worsening. Crude for June delivery fell 1.2 percent to settle at $92.81 a barrel while gold approached a bear-market drop of 20 percent from last year’s record.
